A summary of key roles and events in my career to date

08/21 – 01/23

VP of Engineering

After our CPTO left the business I was promoted into the VP role to become the most senior technology representative. I'm accountable overall for the performance of technology across the business. My responsibility spans our Engineering, IT, and Data & Insights functions, and I report to the CEO. My aim is to use technology effectively to help the company hit its goals, as well as creating a supportive, inclusive, and productive environment for people to grow, and do the best work of their careers.

I joined Farewill as Head of Engineering, taking responsibility for the company's team of engineering managers and engineers, and sitting on the company's Leadership Team.

12/18 – 07/20

Senior Engineering Manager*

At Monzo I was responsible for scaling engineering within the COps Collective, which then grew into Operations Collective (covering our customer support, financial crime, and more. I was also discipline lead for web across the company.

My line of management in Operations included 4 other engineering managers (some also managed managers), and around 40 engineers, split across multidisciplinary squads. Other responsibilities included:

👥 Sitting on the leadership team for Ops Collective to represent engineering, alongside the COO, VP Ops etc.
👭 Partnering with technical leads, senior engineer, and product managers to help drive technical initiatives, strategic work, and headcount planning.
👩🏻‍💻 Line management and coaching of managers and senior IC engineers, focused on their performance, progression, growth, and wellbeing.
💼 Contributing to management best practices and initiatives.
🕸 Setting strategy for the web at Monzo.
🙌🏽 Leading hiring for the web, including aiming to attract and hire high potential team members from diverse backgrounds.
😬 Risk and compliance responsibilities.

Some of the work that I'm most proud of includes proposing and starting up new teams (Web Platform and Web Consultancy), leading the delivery of redeveloping the engineering progression framework, and helping to scale our engineering function and its culture to support the company reaching over 4.2 million customers.

* note that this was a Director-level position, not reflected by my title because of internal freezes.
